let’s start at the very beginning #Write31Days

Was it that time, three years ago, at a conference in St. Louis, Missouri (Have you been there? I love that city.), when the speaker assured if-that’s-you’s in a sea of 27,000 women that yes, that question in your heart is exactly what God is asking you to do?

Was it the unforgettable dream I had two months later?

Perhaps it was the casual conversation when, with two daughters in-tow, we contemplated, maybe for our third we should…

Or maybe it was when the government deemed my brother, sisters and me orphans twenty-seven years ago.

If you’re asking me how this started, when it started, I guess the answer is all of the above.  And much more.

We are adopting.

We have been working on this for almost three years under secrecy from most people in our networks.  It has been difficult keeping this to ourselves; it’s like the world’s longest first trimester.  Finally, it’s time to share our story, just as we wrap up our application process.  There’s so much I want to share about our journey, much of which I no longer want to write about in past tense, as I had originally planned.

Every day in the month of October, you will find a new slice of our story, from the actual process to updates to reflections to recommended media and resources.

Won't you join me?

This is a James 1:27 thing for me (“Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.” NLT) and while I don’t believe it means everyone is called to adopt a child, as followers of Christ, we are called to supporting the cause in some way.  My prayer is that this series will lead you to start a dialogue with God about what that looks like for you.
